Flexibility

From time to time, additional arrangements are made to create the most effective classes.

Bawdsey also has the flexibility to transfer individual pupils between learning groups for different subjects, depending on their needs and aptitudes.

It is fully recognised at Bawdsey Primacy School that the child benefits most where the home and school work in close partnership. The parental contributions to children's learning have a positive impact on the rate of each child's progress.

Willow Class (1)

Willow Class is an Early Years Foundation Stage Unit which includes Nursery and Reception pupils.  Ages 2 - 5
The unit leader and class teacher is Mrs Williams, with Mrs Backhouse the unit's Nursery Nurse and Mrs Collins is the EYFS practitioner.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) applies to children from birth to the end of the reception year. In our school, we have Nursery provision from age 2 and Reception year during the year the child turns 5. Children are admitted into the Foundation Stage in accordance with Suffolk County Council admissions regulations. (Compulsory schooling begins at the start of the term after a child’s fifth birthday). Children are admitted to the Governor-led Nursery upon successful in-school application as they turn 2 or 3. Contact the school office for more information.

Chestnut Class (2)

Chestnut Class is a Key Stage 1 class which includes Year 1 and Year 2 pupils. Ages 5 - 7

The class teachers are Mrs Stone, Mrs Darke and Mrs Butler.

Key stage 1 begins for our children at the beginning of Year 1 and this is where they consolidate their phonic learning and practice their core English and Mathematic skills. This class is set up to help the children transition from more child-led activities, which is how they learn in Reception, into longer sustained times of adult-directed work in Key Stage 1. The curriculum and approach is fun and the curriculum themes lead to immersed learning. Children are given the support they need to fulfil their potential.

Oak Class (3)

Oak Class is a lower KS2 class which includes Year 3 and Year 4 pupils. Ages 7 - 9
The class teacher is Mrs Moffatt

By the time they arrive in Class 3 the children have a good grounding in the basics of reading, writing, maths and science, so here is where we build on that and create an environment where the children can really develop these skills and discover new ones. Children are given any support needed to fulfil their potential and high-flyers can explore a rich curriculum, broaden their interests and investigate new areas they discover that they enjoy. In Class 3 we nurture enthusiasm for and the enjoyment of learning.

Hazel Class (4)

Hazel Class is an upper Key Stage 2 class which includes Year 5 and Year 6 pupils. Ages 9 - 11
The Class teacher is Miss Mee who is also our Senior Teacher.

I believe the main objective as a class teacher is to prepare the children for the next phase of their education. That is why I am so passionate about building their reading, writing and mathematics abilities to as high a standard as possible. However, I also recognise that children should be well motivated and enjoy their learning, so Class 4 includes many exciting and practical projects throughout the two years.

We also provide lots of trips for the children to build their life-skills outside the classroom. For example, we go on a week-long residential trip, and we also go on many day trips (such as to the Radar museum, the aviation museum, and to Bury Cathedral).

In class 4, I believe individual talents and interests should be celebrated and promoted. Therefore, we take part in many sporting, art, and computing competitions too.
